1960 Plymouth Belvedere soft custom

I got tired of trying to build that Gunze ghia, so I put it aside and started a custom-project of a 1960 Plymouth instead! I had a couple of old built Jo-Han 1960 Plymouth Furys laying on a shelf in the hobby-room and they were in pretty decent shape:





The 1960 Plymouth is my #001 favourite US car and I'll do whatever it takes to one day own a 1:1 scale Plymouth 2 d Hardtop....

First thing to do was stripping all paint of the 2 bodies, as I didn't know which one to use.



Then I altered the chrometrim on one body to look like a Belvedere...

I had a long chat with a couple of model-building friends and then decided to build the Belvedere first and save the Fury til later!

The old Jo-Han kits have quite bad interior buckets which are way to shallow, so I rebuilt the interior bucket and had 3 millimeters of extra depth.

The "sky-hi" rear window was just an extra option on the Belvedere, so I decided to redo it into stock configuration.

Lot of Belvederes only had the slant 6 in-line engine, so I used the dremel to remove some exhaust system on the chassie

The drivers part of the bench seat wasn't correct for a Belvedere either, so using a spare rear sofa from a stationwagon I corrected it.

I also wanted this to be a "3-on-the-tree" car with manual gear. So I sanded off the pushbuttons on the dash and made new pedals on the floor along with a new steering column with a gear-shifter





The Belvedere should hav a normal , round steering wheel. But this will be a custom and I like the Fury steering wheel. But, the one in the kit is wrong, it is supposed to be "clear" plastic. So I made some new parts for the steering wheel in clear red plastic.

Thanks a lot for all the kind words! I've now made "rubber carpets" for the interior and started to repair the attaching points for the chassie as 2 of them had broken. This car will run old (pre 1973) swedish lic plates.

What do the old Swedish licence plates look like ? Do you plan to replicate a 1:1 Swedish car that you have seen ?

No, this is just gonna be fictional car , built in a way I like and with the look of something that could've been seen in the swedish traffic scene in the early to mid 70's!

The old swedish lic plates (changed in 1972/73) were plain white plates starting with one (or sometimes two) letter to shown from what county the car came than followed by 5 digits (or 1-5 to be specifik, but in the end all "new" plates were 5 digits).

Finished the steering wheel and column today (even painted and chromed)

indeed a really "sexy" line!
did not had a real look at it before.
