Humvee "Bigfoot" FINI !

Started this one almost  a year ago (May 2019) and it was supposed to be a quickie. However as usual things got out of hands and it all turned into a major project involving a lot of scratchbuilding. The pic's may speak for themselves but I'll do some comment every here and there....









I took a shortcut when it came to modidying the suspension....

Starting to look good....

It needs a much bigger 'roo-bar up front!







And, it needs new front inner fenders....

This kit represents the civilian version of the H1 and I really like the military one better, so I convert the interior a little...

...and at first I thought these seats looked good.



And I also wanted at least a few small parts to be chromed....



While a lot of work went into the interior bucket !

So, I had to take a short brake from all the interior building and do some minor mods to the exterior. New snorcle style air intake ...

OK, back to the interior then. All of a sudden I realized that there is another version of the Revell Hummer that includes the correct interior and dashboard, well....to late. I had already started converting the old dash so on with that....

I wanted the body to look more robust....



...so I made some inserts for the door cavities:



...and also some for the hood and rear hatch:

There are a couple of lifting-devices on the hood which dosen't look very good , so I made new ones:



Then I shot the whole body with Humbrol #056 gun metal gray to prevent the red plastic from bleading through the final paint.



after that I took the flat grey Humbrol #79 , thinned it heavily and shot it to the top and bed-cover from a large distance to get a nice fabric-like texture.

I did the same paint treatment to the interior bucket :



And the dashboard also had some semigloss clear on top to look like painted metal.



The chassie got some semiflat black.....



...and then I had to do another mock-up....

I really didn't like the YELLOW text on the tires, so I washed that away and painted white instead, along with gloss black wheels and a gloss red line to lighten up all that black and grey.....



I had a set of old discbrakes and I added new calipers which I painted gloss red:



And I painted the whole body in satin-flat black:



while the 'roo-bar got a gloss black paint:



And, in the last picture (just above) one can see through the windows that I put in other seats. I modified the stock seats from the kit by omitting the headrests.

Since the bed will be covered only a little of the bed will be visable through the front screen. So, in stead of making a full lenght bed I only made about 1/3 lenght and put a mirror in the back. It's pretty obvious in this piture taken in daylight and wit the interior and bed fully exposed, but will look pretty convincing when fully installed:

I like the general style very much, very impressive !

I'll try to finish this build during the weekend now. Today I'm scratchbuilding outer mirrors, but I've also started a new kit this morning which will not be shown here as it's a british Jaguar.
