1957 Baja Bug Gunze/Kyosho kitbash (FINI)

Right now I'm building a curbside, soft custom Rolls Royce Phantom V limousine. But, since european cars aren't welcome here (apart from VW's) I can't show it to You. Instead, I've also started a new VW-build this evening.

This time I'll build a Baja Bug, combining an old Gunze 1956/57 oval window with a Baja Bug body in 1/24 from Kyosho (not in production at the moment)

The Baja body is a bit too wide, so I'll have to narrow it a Little to make it fit the Gunze body. I'll only be using the Baja kit-parts from the Kyosho body.

More work done to the body this evening. I had to narrow the front picec from the baja and WIDEN the Gunze body to make a perfect fit:

Only thing left to do is to cut away the Baja rear fenders and adapt them to the Gunze body + narrow down the rear middle piece:

Glad You like my Baja. The Kyosho body was found on the net, from some German webshop, about 8-10 months ago. They're quite hard to find these Days as they aren't produced anymore!

I Think I paid about 60 Euro total for the Kyosho body, and now I'm cutting it all up to pieces.... But, the Gunze VW was very cheap, so the total cost for this build will stay below €100 I hope (not counting the cost for paint that is.... )

Yes, please open a blog, that's what I did to show my Euro Fords (Escorts, Capris, Cortinas...). It's really easy, you just have to start a new post in the blog section, & then you can publish whatever you want (even non-automotive subjects) .

It's often a problem with small production kits : they become rare rapidly & they cost a lot of money...
I had the same dilemna with my Escort RS1800 : the kit is expensive now (fortunately, I bought mine years ago when they were plentiful & cheap), plus the aluminium wheels plus the photo-etched sheet + the custom decals for the Ford Motorsport stripes... It's a lot of money finally.

Very nice project, I've started one, I have to post it soon.

Made some progress today as well. Started modifying the front suspension. Cut down the stock axle and did some minor mods and then added new shocks:



I also found a decent pair of chairs in an old Revell Chevy kit. I just cut off the headrests. They will mount on VW stock support:

I just had to do Another mockup after gluing the front and fenders to the Gunze Body and this is just about what it'll look like when finished:
